DLCS Conductors Course 2016

I conduct Cantoirí choir. As someone who has been to DLCS’s course twice, I find that David has inexhaustable patience, and that not only does one learn from every session of one’s own, it is fascinating to be able to learn so much from observing the other participants. I have seen very experienced conductors on this course, and would highly recommend it for all levels.
— Ben Barnes, Conductor

The Dún Laoghaire Choral Society Conductors Course is a unique opportunity to hone your conducting skills under one of Ireland's leading conductors, David Brophy.

This year's course was held on 23-26 June 2016 in Rathdown Girls School, Glenageary, Co Dublin.

Aimed at conductors, musicians, teachers and music students and with a maximum of 12 participants, traditionally the course has involved four days of intensive training. The course covers subjects such as warm-up techniques, rehearsal techniques, conducting techniques, the psychology of conducting, managing repertoire in foreign languages etc. This is the only conducting course in Ireland that provides an actual choir for the students to practice on and participants agree that this is an invaluable resource.

The Dún Laoghaire Choral Society’s conductor training course has proved invaluable to me in my training as a choral conductor. The chance to learn under David Brophy for three days is invaluable as is the chance to conduct the DLCS at the end of the course.

To train under David Brophy’s enthusiastic and insightful direction has been a unique experience that has been invaluable.
The-one-on-one direction, watching other conductors train and then having the opportunity to conduct the DLCS all contribute to a remarkable course.
To have the chance to attend a course run by David Brophy is invaluable and has made a vast difference to my conducting. I want to thank DLCS and David for this rare opportunity.
— Damian Evans. Choir Director at Church of the Visitation of the BVM, Fairview Strand. Assistant Choir Director at Holy Trinity Parish, Donaghmede.
The Conductors Course run by Dún Laoghaire Choral Society with David Brophy is one of the best around. Although I had experience of choral conducting, my eyes were opened to new techniques and I took away so much to work with afterwards. There’s nothing to be afraid of, David made the whole thing very enjoyable and I felt relaxed the whole way through. I really recommend this course to everyone, both experienced and aspiring conductors alike.
