We are very excited to announce ticket sales for our first concert of the DLCS 2026/27 season, the well-beloved Fauré’s Requiem and a newly commissioned piece for DLCS, Ailbhe McDonagh’s Fire and Sun, whose premiere we will perform on 15th November.

Fauré’s Requiem

Fauré’s Requiem is written for orchestra, organ, mixed chorus and soprano and baritone soloists. In this performance we are delighted that soloists Katy Kelly and Gyula Nyagy will join us, accompanied by the Dún Laoghaire Consort. Often called “a lullaby of death,” the Requiem is valued as a meditation on consolation, with Fauré describing this work as “dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.”  

McDonagh’s Fire and Sun

Fire and Sun is a short work for chorus, organ, and cello composed by Ailbhe McDonagh and set to poetry by American poet Sara Teasdale (1884–1933). Commissioned by conductor John Doyle and the Dun Laoghaire Choral Society, Fire and Sun will receive its premiere on 15 November. Across four movements, the music journeys through solitude, the elemental power of the sea, the expansive freedom of the sky, and the radiant energy of fire and sunlight. The solo cello and organ play vital, expressive roles alongside the chorus.
